FIXED DENTURES: CROWNS
If a tooth still has enough healthy substance, it can be preserved with an artificial crown, whereby the shape and color are imitated in such a way that a difference to the natural teeth can hardly be recognized.
WHY ARE CROWNS USED?
There are many reasons for a crown: restoring the function and appearance of damaged or destroyed teeth, fastening bridges to neighboring teeth, preventing fracture in endodontically treated teeth, protection from braces on dentures.
HOW ARE CROWNS USED?
Each crown is individually made and precisely fitted. Comprehensive preparation is required for optimum hold: the affected tooth is prepared so that a stump is created. After an exact impression has been taken, the dental technician uses this information as well as the color and material preferences of the patient to make a crown. The temporary restoration that was inserted during the necessary laboratory time is removed in the next session and the custom-made crown is attached with cement or other adhesive techniques.
WHAT TYPES AND MATERIALS ARE THERE?
There are a variety of types of crowns: cast crowns, partial crowns, veneer crowns, metal-free crowns, post crowns and deciduous crowns. Ceramic, metal-containing or a mixture of both can be used as materials. In a comprehensive consultation we explain the individual types and materials and choose the optimal solution for you with you.
HOW DOES A FIXED DENTURE WORK?
Crowns offer many advantages: They help to preserve your own teeth and improve your chewing behavior. In addition, they have a positive effect on your appearance. With all medical precision work, crowned teeth must also be cared for. Brushing your teeth and flossing for oral hygiene as well as regular professional teeth cleaning make a significant contribution to keeping your "new old" teeth as long and beautiful as possible.
