Root canal treatments
Root canal treatment is necessary to preserve a tooth that is diseased inside. The high treatment costs are worthwhile, as the natural tooth can be preserved and higher consequential costs of a tooth loss are avoided.
WHEN IS A ROOT CANAL TREATMENT NECESSARY?
The tooth is supplied by blood and nerve vessels that reach the pulp, the colloquial “nerve”, via the tip of the root. This is how the dentin is nourished. Deep tooth decay or a fracture reaching into the dentin allows bacteria to invade the dentinal tubules and damage the pulp. This disease, known as pulpitis, ultimately leads to the death of the pulp: a dead-root tooth is created. If the pulpitis is left untreated, it leads to a purulent inflammation that destroys the jawbone in this area.
TREATMENT
Depending on the progress of the disease, a root canal treatment of the pulpitis, the dead tooth or a surgical root canal treatment is necessary. The diode laser is also used in root canal treatment. For a successful treatment, it is essential that treatment appointments are strictly adhered to.
