Filling materials

Plastic filling materials are used to close the holes. Before filling, caries must be completely removed and the tooth must be prepared for the filling. After this preparation, the following filling materials can be used.

GLASS IONOMER CEMENT

This material is mostly used as a temporary filling material. Enriched with fluorides, glass ionomer cement offers additional protection against tooth decay. Usually it consists of silicate glass and polycarboxylic acids and forms a bond with the tooth enamel. Therefore this filler adheres very well.

COMPOSITE

This high-tech material is mainly used in the visible front teeth. Due to its tooth-colored appearance, it offers a high level of aesthetics. Composite is a composite of plastics with up to 80 percent microfine ceramic, glass and quartz bodies. Composite fillings are applied to the tooth in layers and cured with light.

GOLD

Pure gold is almost never used, it is far too soft for that. Instead, alloys are used: the gold is mixed with silver, palladium, platinum and copper. Gold alloys are particularly tight and offer high corrosion resistance. There are up to 700 different gold alloys in Germany.

CERAMICS

Ceramic is also made up of substances such as quartz, feldspar, kaolin and other crystals. It is considered extremely tolerable. Dental restorations with ceramics offer unsurpassed aesthetics, as the color and light properties of a natural tooth can be reproduced almost faithfully. No allergic reactions are known. Ceramic dentures are more complex to manufacture and process than gold and accordingly more expensive.

TITANIUM

Titanium is used for implants, crowns, bridges and inlays. Titanium is the only material used in its pure form and is corrosion-resistant. In addition, it is very well tolerated.
